My Creative Vision

Karen McCann is a photographer who enjoys shooting local scenes in New England, as well using them as textile art to personalize & pay homage to the previous generation of women who instilled a love of fabric in her.

She strives to shoot thoughtful photos which are often digitally manipulated, printed onto photo paper and framed or used in mixed media albums. McCann also creates photo fiber panels by printing her photos onto cotton, silk and linen fabric. These are layered onto other textiles and embellished with hand embroidery & machine stitching to enhance the handmade originality of the piece.

McCann’s work has been included in a number of exhibitions including HeartSpot Gallery, Gallery Night Providence, East Bay Chamber of Commerce Art Night, Wickford Art Association, Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. She has won awards at the Wickford Art Association Juried Photography Exhibit and Sprout Gallery Art Show. She has been active in the Rhode Island Threads Fiber Art Group for many years.

McCann went back to college for a Graphic Design degree in 2008, but is mainly a self taught artist and photographer. She has learned many valuable artistic and personal reflection skills by studying with professionals such as Jane Dunnewold (Creative Strength Training), Cindy Wilson (Rhode Island Photographer and Teacher) and Laura Valenti (Mentoring and Gathering Light Workshop).

When she is not working at the family Print Shop, McCann devotes her time between taking photos of her beloved New England, creating Fiber Art, and spending time enjoying her family.

“My vision comes from spending time thinking about my WHY and then going out and making it happen.”
