Still Life

Making photos of Still Life Scenes is a lesson in intentionality. I prefer clean, simple Still Life images. To my eye, a beautiful bouquet of flowers never goes out of style. Or one meaningful item with a side character to bounce off of is appealing also. I start with the light source around my house, set up my main subject, and a variety of props. Stand back and edit/simplify it down until it feels just right. I don’t get too fussy. The whole thing should take no more than 20 minutes and then I move on to another shot. I know I have made a good still life when I look back at it after months or even years and I still love it.
